How Can a Weary Parent Find Hope This Christmas?

“… Into the middle of impossible messes — comes the Messiah who makes the miracles possible.”  (Ann Voskamp)

Does your child’s life look like an impossible mess? Are they so trapped in addictive behaviors and destructive relationships that it looks like there’s no way out?  Alcohol and drug addiction, an eating disorder, mental illness, a jail sentence, same-sex relationship, pornography, self-harm. Is all you see impossibilities –  in their life and in yours, too?

Find comfort in knowing Jesus, the promised Messiah, comes to us in the middle of it all, no matter how messy it is. And with Him anything is possible  – even that miracle you’ve been praying for and have almost given up on.

But just maybe the miracle is what God is doing in you and that is your hope. If He can take an ugly caterpillar, trapped in a cocoon, and bring a breathtakingly beautiful butterfly out of it, then He can do the impossible in a person’s life. Our children may in a cocoon today, maybe you are, too – but oh, just think of the possibilities!

O Father, do a miracle of giving strength where there is only weakness; hope where there is only despair; joy where there is only sadness; and new life where there has been no sign of it. Revive in us the faith that with You, the One who took on our frail, human form and entered into our soul impoverished cocoons, our messy world, we CAN rise above this mess. You can make something new. You can make miracles happen – they ARE possible – in our child and in us.

We’re waiting. We desperately need one today.

“Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come and has redeemed his people . . . (He has come) to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace (Luke 1:68, 79 NIV).”

“O come, O come, Emmanuel

And ransom captive Israel…”
