Heartbroken Parents Need Resilience

There’s a character quality hurting parents need. Those who are shaken. Traumatized. Bone-weary. Drained. That was me. I lost my zest for life. Friend, does this describe you? At one point, I despaired of life itself. I wished I could die (or that my child’s would – as horrible as that is to admit). I just wanted the pain to end. I would be at peace in heaven and no longer have to worry about the substance abuse, mental illness, suicide possibility or any other terrible outcome of my child’s struggles and choices. There would be no more suffering. No more agony. But I would never do anythiing to end my life. That wasn’t an option. But how could I live like this? I needed something I lacked … resilience. This blog post is a brief discussion about what resilience is, why we need it and how I developed it in my life.
