Renee Yohe
Renee is part of a tremendous story of rescue, restoration and hope. It has come from great pain and tragedy but God will not waste anything in our lives and can redeem it all for His glory and purpose.
Renee's book Purpose for the Pain was released in the fall of 2008. Her books have sold out of the first printing. A few books remain available through her online store
WARNING: This book contains mature and graphic content relating to the issues that Renee has struggled with (depression, addiction, self-injury, suicide, sexual abuse). Please use your discretion. We believe that the book is ultimately an honest story of hope and redemption, but parts of the story are very painful.
Prior to her book, another story was written inspired by and about Renee. *David McKenna, Ryan Kirkland, Jamie Tworkowski along with a group of people from Status (now, City Beautiful Church), the college/professional age community which is part of Discovery Church in Orlando, went to Renee to persuade her to get help. They found her and were instrumental in her recovery! All this took place totally without us. She was not listening to Dad and Mom at that point in her life.
Thousands are getting help and encouragement from it. The story is called To Write Love On Her Arms written by Jamie Tworkowski. It documents five days spent with Renee between her leaving toxic people and going into her second treatment center.
Jamie and friends also designed T-Shirts to help raise funds to pay for Renee's treatment. He created a MySpace page to promote the sales. The shirts have the name of the story,"To Write Love On Her Arms", on the front and the story printed inside back. Shirts can be spotted across the U.S.A and have been seen in England, Korea, Russia, Sweden, South Africa and Australia! Variations were also made saying, "Love is the Movement" and "Rescue is Possible."
Musicians are wearing the T-Shirts and promoting the cause. Groups like Switchfoot, Paramore and many many others (probably not know to us older folks) can be seen wearing TWLOHA shirts, or hoodies. These shirts have even been picked up by a chain of stores called Hot Topic. World famous Ron Jon Surf Shop has an entire section devoted to these shirts.
The TWLOHA MySpace site won the first Community Impact Award presented by MySpace and received ten thousand dollars! Since then it has won numerous awards including an MTV Woody Award and the Chase American Giving Award for 2011. This most recent reward was for one million dollars! The non-profit is gaining recognition worldwide and impacting millions of lives.
Renee and To Write Love On Her Arms were interviewed by NBC Nightly News for their Making A Difference segment.
Between the Trees had three of its songs inspired by Renee and even titled one of them directly with our last name. Ryan Kirkland, lead guitarist, is Renee's friend who prayed for her, listened to her and loved her as a true brother in Christ.
In February and March of 2011 a movie was filmed in Orlando called "Renee" starring Kat Dennings, Rupert Friend and Chad Michael Murray. It was produced by Two Streets Entertainment. *David McKenna was one of the producers. Jamie Tworkowski and TWLOHA are also featured in the film. The movie has been shown in Film Festivals but has not been released to the public.
Renee is currently pursuing a very exciting singing and song writing career. She discovered she has a real talent for this! After a couple of small venues in Orlando she sang at The Purple Door Arts and Music Festival in Pennsylvania and Universal Studios Rock the Universe. She has toured with The Rocket Boys, Craig Owens and occasionally performs with TWLOHA at Heavy and Light Tours at House of Blues.
She now performs as Bearcat and released her first EP (extended play CD) this spring. The EP and other merchandise is available at her store.
*Special Note: December 14, 2012 David McKenna was tragically killed in an auto accident. We grieve this loss deeply. Please join us in prayer for his family, Renee and friends.
